Online Postgrad Back Care & Wellbeing Course for Social Prescribing - August-November 2020

This research-based course is open to all qualified yoga teachers and will cover common stress management and wellbeing issues centred around back pain, anxiety, depression and panic attacks. You will learn easy-to-apply yoga solutions facilitating myofascial stretching, gradual muscle strengthening and healthy breathing. Practical application of the latest research around the many functions of the vagus nerve will give you a deep and nuanced understanding of the human relaxation response.

What does the course include?

  • 16 hours live online teaching (and the downloadable replays of these sessions)
  • at least 10 hours of downloadable teaching sessions to engage with in your own time
  • Working in small groups with tutor guidance on issues arising from case studies plus other topics drawn from yoga and medical understanding
  • Comprehensive 50 page manual – including teaching plans, medical guidelines and background research

  • Trauma sensitive and compassionate teaching approach 
  • Insights into the latest research on the many functions of the vagus nerve, musculo-fascial release, the psoas muscle

Where can it take you?

  • This course will revolutionise the way you’re teaching your current yoga classes
  • You will be confident to start teaching in companies or other workplace settings
  • You will be equipped to start teaching in the NHS, social prescribing and other contexts 

Some of the course tutors are part of national workgroup setting standards for social prescribing.

 

How will the course be delivered?

We will meet up online on 15 & 16 August and 21 & 22 November. Each day will have 4 live contact hours. Between the August and November modules there will be small group sessions. If you’re unable to attend a live session you can always catch up as you will receive replays of all the live sessions.

 

How many CPD points will you get?

This course will give you 20 CPD points.

You'll have a great time!

Over the whole course you will learn:

  • how to assess who might benefit from back care and wellbeing yoga lessons;
  • current medical approaches to back care and mental wellbeing; 
  • yoga philosophy such as the Patanjali Sutras and their relevance in this context;
  • how to adapt yoga techniques simply and safely;
  • how to create a safe and welcoming environment;
  • more about the importance of the relaxation response;
  • how to guide people into relaxation gently and effectively in a variety of different ways;
  • how to support students to breathe more easily and effectively; and
  • how to support students who are dealing with mental and physical challenges.

This course gives you 50 CPD points, comprised of 40 points for contact hours plus 10 points (a minimum of 10 hours) for personal research.

Course Dates

This CPD course is run over two modules:

First module - 15th and 16th August 2020 

Second module - 21st and 22nd November 2020 

You will need to complete both weekends and complete the extra-curricular studies to receive the course certification.

We recommend you book early to avoid disappointment.  Booking online requires payment in full.  Six weeks before your course, you will receive an email with travel details and other essential information.


CANCELLATION

If your cancellation is received by us, in writing, more than 28 days before the start of the course, you will receive a full refund of the paid balance, minus the non-refundable deposit. For cancellations received between 28 and 21 days before the start date, we will refund 75% of the paid balance. For cancellations received between 21 and 14 days, we will refund 50% of the paid balance.
